Mr David Byrne, European Commissioner for Health and Consumer Protection, gave a speech in the European Health Managers Association (EHMA) Annual Conference in Berlin on the 23rd June 2004.
The speech, titled "Enabling health - Empowering citizens", mentions some of the Commission achivements on health of the past years and emphasizes the necessity of empowering people to assume responsibility for their health.
Byrne also gave a speech in June on "The role of diet: How to inform consumers" at the European Food Law Conference , which is a forum for European food industry.
On 14th June David Byrne gave a speech on "Driving Public Health in Europe - The role of Workplace Health Promotion" in the 4th European Conference on Promoting Workplace Health in Dublin.
Mr Pavel Telicka, shadow Commissioner for Health and Consumer Protection, gave a speech at the European Environment and Health Ministerial Conference in Budapest on 25 June 2004.
The title of the speech was "Towards a healthy environment in Europe" and it summarises the main lines of the European Union’s Environment and Health Strategy.
